Stanley "Tookie" Williams was executed tuesday night for four slayings committed in '81. He was the co-founder of the Crips, turned advocate for street peace and spent his remaining days trying to put an end to street gang warfare from his deathrow cell. He has written several books on the subject for students and teachers alike. In 2001, Tookie was nominated for the Noble Peace Prize. I was amazed at the number of my student who knew who Tookie was and had read his book "Life in Prison". we had a really good discussion on the choice making and consequences anyway here is my piece...37.5" x 48", oil and charcoal on burlap
